Courage and Vulnerability: Lady Vol swimmer shares mental health journey

Gambar
Senior Kaitlin Harty is sharing her struggle with her own mental health to inspire others. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Lady Vol swimming and diving senior Kaitlin Harty's favorite quote comes from a friendly neighbor in a red sweater - Mister Rogers.  "Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone."  "It basically sums up what I believe, the more that you talk about something and the more you get into depth about the things, the more you understand what's happening," Harty said. ...

Dylan Larkin ready to join Red Wings’ elite captains club

Gambar
Detroit's Captains Club has been an exclusive group. Only three Red Wings have worn the 'C' on their sweater the past 34 years. Two are in the Hall of Fame and another might join them. Dylan Larkin, raised in metro Detroit, is aware of the prestige that comes with being Red Wings captain, the responsibility required and the special kind of player and person it takes to wear the 'C.' General manager Steve Yzerman confirmed this week that the team will name a captain prior to the 2020-21 season. It would be shocking if Larkin wasn't their choice. Larkin said being named captain would be one of the greatest honors of his life. "It would be something that I take very seriously," Larkin, an alternate captain the past two seasons, said. "To represent the Red Wings in that role would be something that I never imagined as a kid growing up in Detroit. You see the players, Steve himself, that have been (captain) and have been the ultimate Red Wings. They...

With This New Aussie App You Don’t Need to Know How to Design a Sweater to Knit One

Gambar
The hardest part about getting a knitting project off the ground is, firstly, knowing how to knit (especially if you're left-handed and your mum would really prefer that, like her, you were right-handed for this lesson). Second-hardest is finding a pattern that isn't heinous – one that results in an end product that you'd actually like to wear and doesn't need altering. This conundrum, mixed with the realisation that it really shouldn't be that hard to find a nice, normal sweater pattern, is why Megan Elizabeth founded Bellish. "It takes so long to write a knitting pattern, even the most modern ones are two or three years out of date. It's hard to find one that feels like it's current season," Elizabeth says. "Technology's at a point where that can be free and readily available to everyone. So rather than spending countless hours finding a pattern and knit it with confidence, you can have this personalised experience." ...

Treasures: Martha Jenks Chase doll in good condition

Gambar
Dear Helaine and Joe: I have enclosed phots of a doll that was my mother's as a child. She was born in 1918, so I think this doll would have been purchased in the early 1920s. It has a trademark on its hip that informs me this is a Chase doll. It is 14 inches tall and has clothes consisting of pantaloons, chemise, dress, socks, shoes and a crocheted sweater. I do not know how many of these items are original. Any information about this doll would be appreciated. Sincerely, S. P., Austin, Texas Just the other night while watching network television, we saw an episode of a popular show in which the wife decorated the family living room with her aunt's doll collection. The idea was to freak out her husband so he would remove an eyesore that he had placed above the family's fireplace. Predictably, the husband came home, found these childhood playthings and had an attack of the so-called heebie-jeebies. In short, the husband found the collection...
